Running on Borrowed Willpower
May 11, 2026

If you have an Open Heart Center, the past five months may have asked something unusual of you. You may have said yes more often, promised more, carried more, and pushed harder to prove you could deliver, belong, or be counted on. There's a reason for that, and it's about to shift.
Since December 22, 2025, the Nodes of the Moon have been activating the Channel of Community, (40-37), temporarily defining the Heart Center in everyone's chart. For people who don't normally have access to consistent willpower, this will have felt like a temporary boost in your capacity to deliver on promises and contracts.
On May 13, 2026, the nodes move on, and that energy will fade. Many people with an Undefined Heart Center are about to feel that shift in their body and psychology and wonder what happened.
What the Heart Center Represents
The Heart Center, also called the Ego Center, is a motor, meaning it provides energy for action and effort. It governs willpower, self-esteem, promises, material resources, and the capacity to deliver on what you say you'll do. It's the Center of the bargain and the handshake. The "I've got you" and "I can do this."
Defined vs Undefined Heart Center
People with this Center Defined have consistent, reliable access to willpower. They are designed to make promises, compete when correct, and prove their value through delivery. For them, healthy use of willpower is natural, though they still need rest.
For those with this Center Open (~65% of the population), the design is fundamentally different. They do not have reliable willpower. And here is the crucial part: the Open Heart Center is receptive to take in and amplify the willpower of whoever and whatever is around it. It's an open receiver.
The central conditioning of an Open Heart Center sounds like a constant internal pressure to prove yourself, to keep your word at all costs, to be capable, to just try harder. The healthy state, and the relief, of an Undefined Heart Center is that it has nothing to prove. But that is hard to sense when the transit field is amplifying willpower into your design for months at a time.

The Nodes of the Moon have been defining the (40-37) Channel of Community since December 22nd 2025, and will be shifting on May 13th 2026.
The Channel of Community (40-37)
The Channel of Community connects Gate 40 in the Heart Center with Gate 37 in the Solar Plexus, the emotional Center. It's called A Design of a Part seeking a Whole. In plain terms, it's the energy of the bargain, the glue that holds our communities together from small family units to large scale nation states.
Gate 40 and Gate 37
Gate 40 is the Gate of Aloneness, the willingness to work and provide for those you care for in exchange for appreciation, rest, loyalty, and support. Gate 37 is the Gate of Friendship and Family, bringing warmth, affection, bonding, and the handshake that makes an agreement real.
Together they form the language of community life: I'll do this for you if you'll do that for me. Family contracts. Marriage vows. Business partnerships. The unspoken agreements about who cooks, who earns, who shows up, who holds it together.
Because this Channel runs between the Heart Center and the Solar Plexus Center, it isn't a cool, logical willpower. It's emotional willpower. Bargains made under this field feel personal. Loyalty feels heavy. Disloyalty ruins relationships. For nearly five months, this has been the conditioning weather everyone has been living under.
The Global Bargain
Because the Nodes of the Moon define some of the longest sustained programming transits in the chart, they deeply condition our collective perspective. This is what we've all been conditioned to view out there in the world, and within the context of our own daily lives. For nearly five months, the global perspective has been conditioned by the question of the bargain itself, of who owes what to whom, who is providing, who is receiving, and whether the agreements that hold communities together still hold.
You can see it everywhere if you look. Contracts breaking down between governments and the people they serve. Communities struggling to support their most vulnerable. Families renegotiating who carries the weight of care. Strain on the material resources that sustain daily life, from housing to food to gasoline. Workers questioning the bargain of their labor. Nations questioning the bargain of their alliances.
This is the (40-37) transit working at scale. The conditioned perspective has been asking the same question of individuals and of the collective at once: is this bargain still alive, and is it still fair? As the nodes shift, those questions do not disappear, but the borrowed willpower to keep propping up unsustainable arrangements begins to fade. What is correct will remain. What is not will need to be renegotiated, or released.
How This Feels for the Open Ego
For someone with an Open Heart Center, this transit may have shown up in very specific, very human ways. You may have taken on more responsibility at work, in your family, or in a community role, and felt strangely capable of carrying it, at least at first.
You may have said yes to things you'd normally hesitate on such as a favor, a commitment, a role, financial contract, caregiving responsibility, or leadership position. Something inside you said I can handle this, and you believed it, because in that moment, you could.
The Signal of Resentment
You may have felt the pressure to prove you belong by giving more, working more, or holding things together for other people. You may have entered or re-entered bargains that felt like loyalty in the moment, but in quieter moments, you noticed the exchange wasn't quite even. You were giving more than you were receiving, or waiting for appreciation that was never quite there.
You may have felt resentment building underneath the willingness. That resentment isn't a character flaw. It's the Undefined Heart Center's signal that a bargain has gone out of balance. And underneath all of it, there may have been a quiet, persistent voice telling you that if you just kept your side of things, it would all work out.
Why This Matters As the Nodes Shift
On May 13, 2026, that borrowed willpower will fade from the transit program. You may feel it as relief, a quiet exhale, a softening in the chest, an unexplained drop in motivation for things that felt urgent two weeks ago. You may feel it as fatigue, as the bill comes due and the body that was running on borrowed ego energy finally needs to rest.
You may feel it as clarity, suddenly seeing a contract, a promise, or a family role for what it actually is, and asking yourself why you agreed to it in the first place. You may feel a wave of nervousness, wondering how you could have been so sure and now feel so different.
What changed is the neutrino programming. The willpower wasn't yours to begin with. It was on loan. This is not failure. This is not flakiness. This is the conditioning field releasing its grip, and your natal design becoming visible again.
Moving Through the Next Few Weeks
The most useful thing you can do in this transition is take honest stock of what you said yes to between December 22 and now. The big things and the small things. New responsibilities, new contracts, new family roles, new caretaking, new collaborations, new financial commitments. Let yourself see them clearly, without judgment, simply as a record of what was set in motion during the conditioning.
Return to Strategy and Authority
Then ask, for each one, whether you committed from your own clear inner yes, or from conditioning pressure. Strategy and Authority is Human Design's term for your body's correct decision-making process, and it's different for everyone. If you don't know yours yet, that's the next thing to learn.
For now, simply ask honestly whether each yes came from genuine alignment, or from obligation, loose promises, loyalty, or the need to prove something.
Check the Exchange in Each Bargain
Look closely at the exchange in each agreement. Is there appreciation? Rest? Reciprocity? Does the other person see what you're giving? Gate 40 specifically needs appreciation, loyalty, rest, food, and emotional support in return for what it provides. If those aren't present, the bargain isn't fair, and it will not sustain itself once the borrowed willpower fades.
Renegotiate, or Step Back
Allow yourself to renegotiate, or to step back. Not every commitment made under conditioning is wrong. Some will turn out to be genuinely correct for you. But some will need a conversation. Saying "I agreed to this in December, and I'm realizing now I can't sustain it without changes" is a complete and honest reflection. The Channel of Community itself teaches that bargains must be renegotiated often and kept crystal clear.
Finally, resist the urge to immediately replace one set of obligations with another. The Undefined Heart Center's habit is to prove worth. As the willpower drains, the mind may panic and look for a new way to demonstrate value. Let there be space. Let your ego rest.
The Transit Lesson
If you take only one thing from this transit, let it be this: the Open Heart Center is not flawed or lesser than because it can't sustain willpower. It is designed to be wise about willpower, to see who has it, who doesn't, which promises are real, and which bargains are worth keeping. That wisdom is unavailable when you're trying to prove you're worthy. It becomes available the moment you stop.
The willpower of the last five months was real while it lasted. The work you did was real. The care you gave was real. But it was not a permanent capacity, and you don't owe anyone its continuation. What you do owe yourself is honesty about what's actually sustainable from here.
