When Identities Dissolve: Collective Confusion and the Search for True Orientation

Neptune is dissolving, or continues dissolving, roles of all kinds, roles that gave identity and orientation. So if that goes away, on the one hand you can see, what a liberation. And on the other hand, what a confusion. Because people are looking for an identity. They are looking for a role. And if these general orientations are gone, it's very difficult to live a life without orientation. From the point of Human Design these may not be your true orientations, but it is some orientation. And if you take that away, and somebody has not his or her own orientation, you are totally lost.

A Collective Phenomenon: Getting More and More Lost

And that's what we can see as a collective phenomenon: people getting more and more lost. Their old ways, their old promises, their old contracts are all falling apart. And a lot of old identities, look at the professional field. How many professions are in the process of dissolution?

Professions, Universities, and Cultural Heritage

I read an article about universities in the UK, that many of them are closing a lot of departments, especially the ones that are not so promising for making money. Literature, this kind of cultural heritage, languages, they are not important, let's say, for the business world. This is all getting closed down. These have been, first of all, professional identities.

Confusion and the Risk of False Saviors

But their existence as a part of culture, of cultural heritage, is also an orientation and a kind of identity. And it's not you. It is not you. But you take it away and you have nothing to replace it. What is left then? Confusion. Confusion, and an openness to accept almost everything, that is, for me personally, the most frightening thing. If there is a next false Jesus coming, the guy could be very successful. This is something that gives me a shiver.

The Question Beneath It: Who Am I?

But what we have for sure as a collective phenomenon is a rising confusion. Who am I? Or who should I be? And what is any kind of reliable orientation, direction?

Why Human Design Becomes a Necessity

So we can also see, by this movement, how tremendously important Human Design is to become as a collective phenomenon. When Human Design started, it was just a privilege for some crazy individuals, lucky enough to meet it so early. Collectively it was, who needs it, who wants it, really? It was just a curiosity, the famous golden watch you get before you go to pension. But we can see it becomes more and more an unavoidable necessity, if you want to survive all these changes and not get damaged or destroyed by them.

Neptune as Preparation for Something New

So what Neptune is therefore also doing, to some degree, is preparing, preparing for something new, for something really new. A little bit of greetings from the 41: a real new beginning, not another false identity, not another false orientation. What if there would be a true identity and a true orientation?

OK, we will see. As with Neptune, it's not easy to observe, you usually see it only after it has happened. But as we know what to look for, we may sometimes be gifted to see examples of how this is unfolding.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean that Neptune is dissolving roles and identities? +

It means the roles that gave people identity and orientation, professions, social functions, the contracts of an old way of living, are slowly weakening. These are not your true orientation, but for most people they are some orientation. As Neptune dissolves them, one side is liberation and the other side is confusion.

Why does this create confusion instead of freedom? +

Because if you take the old orientation away and a person has no orientation of their own, they are totally lost. The danger is that this confusion brings an openness to accept almost anything. If there is a next false Jesus coming, the guy could be very successful.

How does Human Design help during this period? +

It offers a true orientation that comes from within, rather than a borrowed one taken from a role. What was once a curiosity becomes more and more a necessity if you want to move through these changes without being damaged by them. In the spirit of the 41, it points toward a real new beginning, not another false identity.
