Advanced 1: Left, Right, and the 16 Variables

Behind its practical aspects, Human Design has roots in deeply mystical concepts. When one is beginning to investigate those deeper aspects of the knowledge, one needs to study the foundational concepts to see their logic and practicality. But what if you could have a condensed version of the information where deeper aspects were quickly tied to the surface that can be experimented with?

Starting from the bottom up, this was one of the few times Ra approached the knowledge from the more abstract and advanced material to give a full picture of how the Human Design System offers a holistic view of life through Type, Profile, and Variable.

Variable is at the deepest level of your genetic makeup. If you align yourself with what is correct for you, ultimately you’re going to be able to live out the possibility of what it is to be uniquely you.

If your approach is Strategic, your way of learning represents the dominant approach that has given us an evolutionary advantage up to this point in our history, through the application of specialized knowledge. This type of thinking is a product of what Human Design refers to as the “Left Strategic” Mind, which is the type of mental process reflected in our educational, business, political, and military establishments.

The Strategic Mind represents our dominant way of approaching learning. But we are in an evolutionary movement moving from the Left/Strategic (focused) to the Right/Receptive (non-focused). The Left strategies are what created the world we know today. Strategic formulas are based on survival, fear and trying to control with our minds. But that is not who we are. How to find out if you have a Left or Right Mind

To determine your cognitive approach you need only enter your birth data in our free Variable Calculator, which will reveal your Personality Sun/Earth orientation. (You will need an accurate time of birth for this calculation, as the Sun/Earth orientation changes every two hours). On the results page, there are two ways to identify whether you have a Left- or Right-oriented mind:

Approach 1: Chart Properties. If your Variable starts with PR, you have a Right and Receptive mind. If it instead begins with PL you have a Left and Strategic mind.

Approach 2: Your Human Design Chart. The Variable arrow to the top right of the BodyGraph represents the orientation of your Personality Sun/Earth. If it’s pointed to the right, you have a Right and Receptive mind. If it’s pointed to the left, you have a Left and Strategic mind.

In this course, Ra explores the Receptive consciousness that absorbs information without a focus. Discover the two different kinds of Right personalities, which of the two is evident in your Design, and why the health of the Right Mind is dependent on the quality of relationships.

The Right/Receptive is the focus of the evolutionary movement. But we still live in the conditioned strategic way of life. The Right being has no focus, takes in everything, and is not here to be concerned about survival or live in the fear that is an element of strategic homogenized thinking.

How does the Right being exist in this world? What protects, guides, and gives security to the Right being? Learn the key to the Right survival and the way the Left and the Right are meant to help each other.

Human Design is rooted in the potential of Differentiation, the opportunity to be unique as a result of operating correctly as yourself. It is the practice of stepping out of conditioning and into authenticity.

As we go deeper in our process we can explore the potential to transform body and mind through our Variable, which shows our inherent Left and Right qualities. In ‘Being Right,’ Ra focuses on the essence of Right-ness and how it determines an approach to life that is rather different from our cultural norms.

This course is an exploration into what it means to have Right receptive Variables in one’s chart. The four Variables—Digestion, Environment, Perspective, and Awareness—are discussed in relation to the Right. The greatest gift of Right-ness is originality, and Ra calls it the anti-homogenizing program. Starting with Digestion, each Variable builds upon the next until the pathway to transcendence in the Right being’s process is fulfilled in order to live out the beauty of their originality.
