Intermediate 1: The BodyGraph | Centers, Channels, and Gates

 Ra looks at one of the rarest phenomena in Human Design, representing only 0.63% of the population: the quadruple-split definition. 

A quad-split can be any Type except a Reflector. There are four different areas of definition separate from each other, so either eight or nine centers are automatically defined in a quadruple-split.

Although single definition is rather common at 40%, there are many variations, from simple one channel designs to complex interconnected-ness between multiple centers.

On one hand, the connectedness gives a sense of consistency, solidity and wholeness. On the other hand, the open centers are the strongest areas of conditioning.

Split definition, which represents about 45% of humanity, happens when two defined areas in your design do not connect to each other.

This sort of split can very much be the drive to connect with other people, because the split definition, by its very nature, is always looking for bridges to bring the two aspects together.

Among all the possible definitions, only the split definition is left with the dilemma of being dependant on the other in order to experience wholeness.

The triple-split actually has more in common with the single definition than the split definition. Rather than being deeply conditioned by the bridges, they are much more conditioned by the open centers in their design.

For many of us, discovering Human Design and our BodyGraph felt something like coming home to ourselves. For the first time things that were true for us, as revealed by our BodyGraph, gave us insight into how we were meant to function in our lives and in the world; and that insight was presented without judgement. It was refreshing and exhilarating to come to a better understanding of ourselves without being urged to change anything about ourselves. The only thing we were urged to do was to understand who we are, trust that understanding and make choices that allowed us to live out our Design.

Human Design can be fascinatingly deep and complex, and at the same time, simple and direct. As Ra Uru Hu said, “The simple things in Human Design are often left behind, and at great risk; because despite its depth, it is in fact simple knowledge. It is knowledge where its great secrets are very obvious and on the surface. ...and nothing is more profound than the Channel itself.”

The Life Force energies of the Channels is one of the least explored areas in Human Design. A great deal of written and audio material is available about Gates, but there has been very limited information on the Channels. Channels are often examined in association with the interpretation of the values of the Gates, with Channels being the way those values can be brought together.

But the 36 life force energies of the Channels are much more than that. They establish the way in which we can each operate correctly. Out of the Channels, we find what is consistent and reliable in expressing our true nature. In the BodyGraph, Channels exist through connection — those places in the BodyGraph where two Gates connect to form a Channel between two Centers. If both Gates are activated in our chart, then the Channel is colored in on the BodyGraph and is easy to spot; it’s an indication that the Centers are defined, and there is a fixed, consistent movement of energy.

So Channels serve as guides to how we engage with the world — they indicate our frequency. The defined Channels in your BodyGraph help you understand how to express your innate nature authentically— your life force, your health, your vitality, your spirit and your mental acuity. They show you where your power is. They reveal your essence, the ways in which you are different from anybody else. And they show your promise — what you were designed to bring into the world.

Where the Logical component of the Collective Circuitry works with patterns, the Abstract is experiential. In fact, it is the human experiential way. There is no progress until one actually lives the experience. It is in the Abstract Circuitry that memory is concretized in books, film, writings, and through these means, the Abstract brings transformation to others through the act of storytelling.

The Abstract Circuit, which begins with the Format of 42/53, is discussed in detail, including an explanation of how the Fates intervene in our lives, the time required for transformation to take place, and the importance of the 6th Line being in the coming global cycle change in 2027.

The Formats drive the expansion of our consciousness towards transcendence. The Collective maps the way to growth of consciousness, moving away from the constraints of Tribal bargains, rules, and regulations, to strategies for implementing mutation.

The Collective is the basis of life because it shows us a pattern, and the Logic Format is trying to establish a pattern of developmental consciousness. As it is based in the Format of Concentration—stillness and focus—the growth of consciousness starts with stillness. As Ra works through this Logic Circuit, which starts in Channel 9/52, he investigates the ultimate expression of love, the mystery of life, and what transcendence means to the Collective.

Initiated by the Format Channel 3/60, Individual Circuitry is the most common in the BodyGraph. Mutation is something that all who carry Individual Definition look for in their lives—that sudden spark that brings change but happens on its own accord.

Without the creative spark of something new, the Individual can experience depression, a deep melancholy that spreads throughout humanity. But, the Individual life can be very satisfying if its process is understood and accepted, and its potential is harnessed creatively. The Individual needs to be taught by the Collective to accept limitation, which is possible because they each share and meet in the mind.

This lecture series discusses transcendence and the Individual, the Collective’s role with the Individual, the coming transformation of the Solar Plexus, and the impact on humanity from the byproduct of this mutation.

Feelings such as melancholy and sadness are often interpreted as a sign that something is wrong. This can lead to looking for reasons or seeking out professional help for ways to fix those feelings. But what if experiencing these feelings serves a greater purpose?

In Human Design, melancholy is the result of the chemistry that comes with Individual Circuitry. Because Individual Gates and Channels dominate the BodyGraph, the potential for experiencing personal transformation is often accompanied by feelings of sadness, or even depression.

Fear is a primal response, one that is instinctive and often beyond reason or understanding. When faced with sudden threat, our bodies react to fear by going into protection mode — what some refer to as “fight or flight” — by releasing adrenaline and increasing heart rate, blood pressure and breathing rate. This deep and ancient fear goes back to a time before we were human, and these physical responses have aided us in fighting what threatened us, or in running away.

But as we evolved, so did other types of fear — more subtle and more lingering, such as mental anxiety over futility or chaos. These fears don’t trigger an immediate bodily response, but rather may lurk at the edges of our thoughts during the day and lead to sleepless nights.

Whether we experience fear as an immediate threat or a lingering concern, it is an unpleasant feeling. Certainly fear can be useful, warning us of a threat to our survival. But fear can also take over our lives in a way that seems to have no useful purpose, robbing us of our focus and peace of mind, and leading to feelings of helplessness.

Such unpleasant feelings can make us believe we must be doing something wrong, or fear wouldn’t be so overwhelming. But, as Ra Uru Hu says, no human being is free of fear, fear is simply part of the human process. In this new release, The Gates of Fear, Ra expands upon the different types of fear, and how they operate.

We get to look at the nature of fear through the Fear Gates found in the Spleen, Ajna and Solar Plexus. These three Centers hold fears that are of the body, of the mind, or emotional, and for each there are specific approaches to recognizing and managing these fears.

As Ra explores the nature of each type of fear, it becomes clear that fears can be debilitating when approached through the Not-Self; but they actually benefit us if we rely on our Strategy. When we are living out our nature, fears attune us to greater potential in ourselves and others, and inform our expanding and evolving awareness.
