Profile Compatibility

Hello Everyone,

I saw a recent post on Facebook asking about Profile compatibility, and this is the first time in a while I felt compelled to write a response. A Facebook conversation followed talking about the compatibility of profiles or not, based on a book that was written. It is easy to spread misinformation in sound bites, and a bit harder to find the truth.

I’d like to say, initially, that the way to ensure you are with the person you are here to be with is through your personal Strategy and Authority. We cannot make these decisions from the mind. Well, we can, but it’s a crapshoot. You’d have a better chance of success in starting a new relationship by throwing a dart at a dartboard than making a decision with your mind; the dartboard might actually improve the odds!

Yes, it is true; mechanically there are Profiles that are in Resonance, Harmony and Dissonance, but this does not mean these are the ‘correct’ Profile matches for you, or not. I believe that this is one of the many ways the Human Design knowledge has been distorted by misunderstanding, misinterpretation or by innocently (or not innocently) trying to simplify the knowledge hoping to make it palpable for the masses. It’s a shame really, and it stimulates a response from me to clear things up. I for one don’t like seeing a knowledge as beautiful as this watered down for anyone. I believe people are savvy enough to understand this beautiful knowledge as it was intended.

First let me say, according to the mechanics of Human Design, there are many ways in which two people come together. They can have electromagnetic connections through two gates coming together; they can be comfortably compatible through sameness; they can condition one another through opposite defined/undefined centers coming together (difference attracts), through various ways the Profile can be aligned, etc., etc. There are many different ways. I’ve seen all variations through my many years of doing readings and teaching.

And, mechanically speaking, there are many ways that Profiles interact with the other. For example, if you have line 3 defined in your Nodes you will have people in your environment with line 3 in their Profile, or maybe they will have many line 3s throughout their design. If you have color 6 in your design you may resonate with others with line 6 in their Profile, etc. And, you may not be able to tell why you are aligned with this person or that person just by looking at the chart. It may have to do with familial conditioning from your past.

My point is that there are many variables when considering compatibility or not. Perhaps as a 4.1 Profile my most important relationships are with 6.2 Profiles or 3.5 Profiles! These Profiles are in complete dissonance with my Profile. One of the most interesting things in life is difference. We learn from difference. We learn acceptance and tolerance. I may not understand that person and why they do things the way they do them, but I can still love and accept them. And this is the bottom line: Human Design is the Science of Differentiation. Uniqueness is celebrated and empowered with this knowledge.

With this knowledge, people have a chance to live together in acceptance and understanding rather than blame, shame and guilt. If you understand how you are designed differently than your partner or child and visa versa, you then have the potential to come to a place of acceptance and relaxation. And, when approached playfully, this can also inject great humor into the relationship!

In considering Profile compatibility, having the same Profile as another means that these Profile’s are in Resonance. Sameness resonates because it has the same or very similar frequency (this sameness, however, may not be interesting). Profiles that are in Harmony can find harmony together. It’s not the same as resonance, but this combination has the potential to exist in harmony. Mechanically, these are the harmonies: 1 and 4, 2 and 5, and 3 and 6. They have a different frequency, but they have the potential to harmonize.

But, and it’s a big but, even though you may have a Profile in resonance or harmony with your family member or friend, there are myriad ways that you may not be compatible or correct for each other. We are complex beings, and this complexity is revealed in Human Design. The point is, however, Strategy and Authority transcend this complexity. We cannot possibly look at a chart to make a decision about this person being correct for us or not. Those differences, sameness, resonances, harmonies, dissonances or whatever, may be just the thing we need to transcend our own limitations, or mutate us to a new level of understanding humanity and ourselves. Who knows?

And now we have come full circle again, pointing us back to the beauty of us living and breathing as our own Authority. Authority does not exist out there, nor should we give our authority over to what someone says about our Human Design chart. Authority exists with each individual in his or her own unique way.

All of this brings me a feeling of satisfaction and gratitude!

As Ra would say, “follow your own Strategy and Authority and see where it takes you”.
